Cricklytics.com’s World Cup XI – 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup

  1. Rohit Sharma – The Highest run scorer of the tournament  with five centuries in bowler friendly conditions. Rohit had little competition for the number one spot.
  2. David Warner – All eyes were on Warner on his come back into the international scene after a one  year ban from Cricket. While he was circumspect and not his usual bludgeoning self his bat still answered his critics when he ended up being the second highest run scorer in the tournament only a few runs behind Rohit.
  3. Shakib Al Hassan – Only one score under 50 in 9 innings and 11 wickets, no better all round performance than this in this tournament and batting at crucial spot of number 3.
  4. Kane Williamson (c) – A cricketer and a gentleman. No one deserved the MVP tag more than Captain Cool. He steadied the ship with the bat when others were sinking and his masterful tactics on the field to marshal  his troops in chess like maneuvers qualifies him to be the captain of the team.
  5. Eoin Morgan – He walks in and he is 30 not out before you realize he has taken guard. Morgan is one of the few middle order batsmen to succeed in this tournament. His record breaking 17 sixes in one inning broke Chris Gayle’s previous ODI record and that’s saying something.
  6. Ben Stokes – Hero of the finals and world cup winner. . His contributions not only with the bat but also with ll the ball and in the field were crucial to England’s success on multiple occasions.
  7. Jos Butler (wk) – Butlers ability to accelerate in the death overs and the ability to bat in any situation gives him the edge to be selected  as the wicket keeper batsman. His contribution to the partnership in the final with Ben Stokes was the foundation for England’s historic win.
  8. Mitchell Starc – Being the leading wicket taker in the tournament was no fluke when he kept hitting 150km/h just for fun. Starc’s bowling lifted Australia a couple of times during the tournament. Two Mitchell’s (Five-fers) in the 2019 World Cup campaign makes him an automatic pick.
  9. Jofra Archer – Jofra was just a star on tweeter 6 months ago. Had a career defining IPL season to boost him into contention into an already established English team. Arguably the best emerging cricketer of this world cup. Fast and accurate was his bowling, including Yorkers  and bouncers. Archer’s bowling was instrumental in England’s World Cup success.
  10. Adil Rashid – It is important to include a spinner in the side although the world cup was dominated by the fast bowlers. Spinners didn’t have  much success but Rashid managed to rise above the lot.
  11. Jasprit Bumrah – Ranked number on in ODI bowling , Bumrah is one of the best bowlers in delivering yorkers. His bowling was on target and accurate in this tournament. India’s success was relying upon Bumrah to deliver.
  12. Jason Holder – Holder is well placed to replace either a batsman or a bowler in this lineup. We thought an all rounder of his calibre is best suited as a 12th man. He was right up there in the all rounder category of this world cup alongside Shakib & Stokes even though West Indies were unable to string any performances of note in the World Cup.

Trent Boult sums up New Zealand’s luck in this World Cup as he narrowly misses being included in our dream team. His performances were great and is commendable. Alex Carey missed out marginally being the wicket keeper, but Carey is one of the best finds of the world cup. Avishka Fernando of Sri Lanka is another great find of this tournament. Came to light in the later part of the tournament, he was fearless against the likes of Archer. Avishka was perhaps the only batsman who played well against Archer. It is also worthy to mention Nicholas Pooran from West Indies, a young prospect that is looking bright for their future.
