ICC Cricket World Cup Final 2019 – England V New Zealand

Super Over

What drama at Lord’s as the 2019 World Cup final went to the Super Over. England came to bat with their two trump cards Stokes and Butler. Kane used his, Boult with the ball.

Stokes continued from his innings and started off with a 3, he then hit Boult for 4 through midwicket. Butler joined in scoring a couple of singles and finishing with a boundary of his own. England made 15 in the Super Over.

Morgan handed the ball to new kid Archer, playing only his 14th international ODI, but perhaps the most important game of his young career.

For New Zealand it was Jimmy Neesham and Martin Guptil. Kane Williamson took a punt on the youngster. Archer’s first ball was a centimeter off the off side tram line and was called wide. Neesham got 2 the next ball and a massive 6 the next one. The gamble had paid off. Kiwi’s needed 7 from 4.

Archer held his nerve, the fielder didn’t. Two minor errors gave them two 2s. Then the perfect short ball, 1 run taken. New Zealand needed 2 of 1 to win the Cup, England a wicket, a dot or a 1.
It came down to Martin Guptil, the hard hitting kiwi openers may have had a quiet world cup but now he got 1 chance 1 ball to win the World Cup.

Archer bowled the perfect full delivery, Guptil squeezed it to square leg, went for the second but the throw was too good and he was short by a meter. Super over tied, England win the World Cup.
